JZ must stop his unruly fans

An embarrassing situation played itself out again in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend when a bunch of unruly Zuma supporters tried to disrupt President Thabo Mbeki while he was speaking at the reburial of struggle veteran Moses Mabhida.

An embarrassing situation played itself out again in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend when a bunch of unruly Zuma supporters tried to disrupt President Thabo Mbeki while he was speaking at the reburial of struggle veteran Moses Mabhida.

Those hooligans should bury their heads in shame for choosing the funeral of a renowned struggle hero to act in at manner.

It was an insult to Mabhida, his family, the president and the people of KwaZulu-Natal. The idea to bury Mabhida in the soil of a liberated South Africa was the brainchild of ANC leader Oliver Tambo and slain Mozambican president Samora Machel. The behaviour of Zuma's supporters was tantamount to spitting on the graves of Mabhida, Tambo and Machel.

It is not the first time that the president was humiliated on a public platform by Zuma's supporters. Recently, an unruly mob tried to disrupt Mbeki at an event attended by the prime minister of India. Zuma is also to blame because he is doing very little, if anything, to stop people using his name to insult the president.

If Zuma wants to become president he must behave like a statesman. He should crisscross the country to call his supporters to order.
