Mbeki to meet with Bush for indaba

President Thabo Mbeki, supported by foreign minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, will hold political and economic discussions with US President George Bush in Washington on Friday.

President Thabo Mbeki, supported by foreign minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, will hold political and economic discussions with US President George Bush in Washington on Friday.

The bilateral talks between the two leaders are expected to include, among other topics:

l Political and economic relations between both countries;

lConflict resolution and peacekeeping in Africa;

lMultilateral cooperation, including developments in the WTO negotiations;

l South Africa's accession to the nonpermanent seat on the UN's security council;

l Other issues of international concern.

The economic relationship between the two countries remains strong - with continuing US interest in investing in South African industry and expanding the trade relationship, which is currently in South Africa's favour.

The US is also expected to focus on stimulating economic growth and on encouraging small, micro and medium enterprises through their USAid programme. - Sapa
