A1 Team South Africa returns to Indonesia this week for the fifth round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport - but their star driver may not be at the wheel.

Twenty-year-old Adrian Zaugg, who got South Africa off to the best possible start by convincingly winning the season-opening sprint race at Zandvoort in the Netherlands in October, might miss the event.

Zaugg has a problem affecting the muscles of his forearms and is considering corrective surgery.

Alan van der Merwe, who accompanied Zaugg to Beijing in China and to Sepang in Malaysia for the last two rounds of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, is confirmed as part of the driver line-up for the Sentul track, but his partner for the weekend is likely to be a late announcement.

"We're obviously concerned about Adrian's condition," said Dana Cooper, chief executive of A1 Team South Africa.

"We are giving him all the support we can and are confident he will overcome this problem with the right medical care.

"We are also confident that we have the driver talent at our disposal to give a good account of ourselves in any A1GP that Adrian might be forced to miss."

The Sentul circuit is located 45minutes from Jakarta and 8km from Bogor in West Java. It is 3,9km long, has 11 turns and runs in a clockwise direction. The circuit has been used predominantly for bike racing and the Asian F3 series. It is fast and wide with very high speeds. Extreme heat and humidity are added challenges.

lSaturday's qualifying round will be broadcast live on SABC3 from 9am to 10.30am and Sunday's two races from 9am to 11.30am.
