Safety and security minister Charles Nqakula will not be taking any action against national Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi.
Selebi, pictured, has come under fire following media reports that he had been aware of an investigation into the criminal activities of Glenn Agliotti.
Agliotti - who is a friend of Selebi - has been arrested in connection with the murder of the late mining magnate Brett Kebble.
Yesterday Nqakula's spokesman Trevor Bloem said the minister's position remained that he would only act if "anyone brought concrete evidence".
At the weekend the ACDP joined other opposition parties calling for Selebi's dismissal.
The party's leader, The Reverend Kenneth Meshoe, questioned the example that Selebi was setting as the country's chief crime-fighter.
"I request Selebi to step down now to allow for the judicial commission to clear his name if he has done no wrong."
Meshoe was speaking at his party's yearly general conference held in Bloemfontein. Meshoe said most police officials "no longer trusted Selebi".

The article was published after the newspaper won a last-minute court battle against the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on Thursday night, when the NPA tried to prevent publication.
The Democratic Alliance and Freedom Front Plus said on Friday that Nqakula had no option but to fire Selebi.
