About 11000 participants were at the 19th World Diabetes Congress in Cape Town yesterday to discuss the condition that affects 240million people worldwide.

"More than 12000 could end up attending," said International Diabetes Foundation's Luc Hendrickx.

The congress is said to be the biggest international conference that Cape Town has ever hosted.

Hendrickx also invited 17 people involved in arranging international medical conferences to see the city's "ability to host such events". - Sapa
