Youth support for Aids Day

Andrew Hlongwane

People all over the world observed World Aids Day on Friday to remember their brothers, sisters and parents killed by the pandemic.

It was no different in Themba, near Hammanskraal in North West, where thousands joined Tshwane executive mayor Gwen Ramokgopa at a ceremony to mark the day.

Local artists Botse, Ruth Khoza and Shaka-Shaka provided entertainment.

Local dance groups Boitshepo Cultural Dance Group and the Vukani Little Stars were also on hand.

In her speech, Ramokgopa urged people to go for Aids tests so that they could know their status and start taking medication if necessary.

Ramokgopa said she was encouraged by the high turnout of youth at the commemorative event.

Candles were lit in memory of all those who had died of Aid-related diseases.
