Police in Limpopo have removed a decomposing human lower leg that was discovered by refuse removers on Wednesday.

Superintendent Malesela Ledwaba of the Waterberg police said that the police had been informed of the discovery of the leg by local people removing rubbish in Dudu Madisha Street in Mokopane - formerly known as Potgietersrus.

Ledwaba said the police were investigating the matter and that the limb had been sent for tests in the hope of identifying who it belonged to and of establishing the circumstances that led to the loss of the leg.

Ledwaba refused to say if the police suspected foul play, including ritual killing.

He said he could not comment until the investigations had been concluded.

Anyone with information regarding the find should call Captain Matome Mohale of Mokopane on 082-565-8277 or 082-459-5615.
