The Kenyan chapter of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) has invited respected local instructor Sensei Edward Mtshali to help develop the standard of the martial arts in east Africa.

Mtshali, who is the instructor of the South African chapter of the JKA, is expected to fly to Kenya on Sunday.

Mtshali said he was invited by David Mulwa, Kenya's technical adviser, to conduct gradings and training sessions.

The training sessions will run from December 4 to 8 before the gradings on December 9.

Mtshali said he accepted the invitation to develop and improve their style in east African countries.

Instructors from the surrounding countries, including Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania, are expected to attend, said Mtshali, who is a seventh dan.

Mtshali, who is from KwaThema in Ekurhuleni, said they will hold a special meeting on December 10 to assess the event.

l The Gauteng Knockdown Championships will take place at Wembley Indoor Sports Arena, Johannesburg, on Saturday.
