A warrant of arrest has been issued for an Mpumalanga woman who allegedly married a dead man in order to gain control of his estate.
The warrant of arrest for 32-year-old Silungile Dumisa was issued after she failed to appear in the Nelspruit magistrates' court yesterday on charges of fraud.
The case was postponed to December 13.
She is accused of conspiring with a Zulu queen in Paul Petersburg, KwaZulu-Natal, to forge an official letter confirming that she and the deceased policeman from Nelspruit, Inspector Napoleon Ngomane, were married until his death on May 27 last year.
Dumisa then allegedly used the letter in February to convince the Home Affairs Department to issue a marriage certificate in her favour.
She then used the certificate to control Ngomane's estate.
Dumisa had reportedly lived with Ngomane as his girlfriend, but separated a few years before his death. Ngomane then lived with another woman, Bafikile Madonsela, until his death. Madonsela with the help of Ngomane's family obtained a letter of authority appointing her as executor of Ngomane's estate, but this was challenged by Dumisa using the documents that she had allegedly fraudulently obtained.
Madonsela and Ngomane's family contested Dumisa's claim and Dumisa was arrested after a police investigation.
She was arrested in March this year on charges of fraud and released on a R1000 bail.
