Moroka Swallows want to open channels of communication with their supporters with the appointment of Sello Maugane as their public relations officer.
The energetic Maugane, who believes the Birds' support could be revived and that the side could once again command one of the largest followings in the country, said some of the club's fans were disgusted about the team's performance.
Swallows' fans rioted after their side drew 0-0 with Bloemfontein Celtic in a home league fixture on Sunday.
"The team needs to be consistent to attract a large support to their games. We need to plan with branch managers for every game on how to get supporters to the ground," he said.
Maugane said various issues such as the possibility of arranging life, pension or accident policies for supporters should be discussed with them.
"I also believe that complimentary tickets should be given to those supporters who are regular at Swallows games. Freebies like T-shirts, caps, pens, key holders, bags and other paraphernalia must be made available to them," he said. "I'm going to avail myself to our supporters before and after games to discuss how we can reach common ground."
The outspoken Maugane, who has a good track record in the financial services sector, said he can bring stability to the team.
Maugane joined Swallows with broad marketing and brand management experience and qualifications from the Institute of Marketing Management (IMM), the Association of Advertising Agencies (AAA), the School of Advertising and Wits Business School.
Maugane said Swallows are one of the oldest clubs in the country with a rich history and should be competing with Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs for support. But they do not command large followings at their games, like before.
He admitted that Bloemfontein Celtic have overtaken them in the number of supporters spurring the team on. Even when they play away from home their followers are there, rallying behind them.
Maugane said he has not met the Birds' owner, Dieter Bock.
"We hope that the team starts winning so as to appease our disgruntled supporters.
"The players' attitude is still okay. Despite the setbacks they are positive and hope they can change their fortunes soon."
