A Finnish tourist was rescued unharmed after being swept out to sea while swimming off Plettenberg Bay, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said yesterday.

Hekke Polanen was swept away by a strong rip current on Tuesday afternoon, said NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon. Lifeguards at Lookout Beach launched their rescue boards and reached Polanen about 800m beyond the breakers.

A rescue boat was launched and took Polanen to shore, where he was assessed by a doctor and released with no injuries. - Sapa
