A West Rand mining executive was allegedly murdered by three hitmen the day before he was to receive R1million in retirement and pension payouts.
According to the charge sheet in the Vereeniging circuit court, Albert Matududu Mojapelo, 47, was shot twice in the head and once in the upper body on September 29 last year.
His widow, Tinky Sophie Mojapelo, 38, her friend Antoinette Mkhensani Masuku, 26 and one of the alleged hitmen, Orlando Mandoza, 32, appeared in court yesterday morning accused of kidnapping and murder. The trial was postponed to June 1.
Mojapelo retired three months before his death and would have received his retirement packages the day after he was killed.
It is alleged that he was kidnapped from his upmarket home in Hillshaven, Westonaria, by three armed men. They allegedly drove him, in his own 4x4 vehicle, to Orange Farm in the Vaal where he was killed.
Nothing was stolen from the vehicle.
Tinky Mojapelo and Masuku are out on R5000 bail each. Mandoza, a Mozambican citizen, remains in custody.
The trio face charges of murder, conspiracy to murder, kidnapping, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and of pointing a firearm.
Speaking after the hearing yesterday, Albert Mojapelo's sister, Sophie Makgatlo, 42, said she had long disapproved of her brother's relationship with his wife.
"Their marriage was a secret. My brother was emotionally abused by his wife," Makgatlo said.
She claimed that Tinky Mojapelo and Mandoza were lovers.
Makgatlo said her brother's bank accounts had been frozen until the trial was concluded.
"I want justice to be done. They [the accused] deserve a long sentence as an example to other women who are planning to kill their husbands," Makagtlo said.
She said her brother had wanted to divorce his wife because he was no longer happy with her. She said this was probably why he was killed.
Two of the alleged hitmen are at large and are believed to have returned to Maputo.
The Mojapelo case comes hot on the heels of another dramatic trial in which a Limpopo woman is accused of hiring hitmen to kill her pharmacist husband.
Kgomotso Tladi is alleged to have plotted the death of her husband, Andrew Tladi. His body was found dumped in Marble Hall, Limpopo.
The husband of Antoinette Masuku is said to have been a friend of Albert Mojapelo. He was killed execution-style at his Hillshaven home in July last year.
