The members of the kwaito outfit Alaska have sought divine intervention in their quest to survive in the dog-eat-dog showbiz industry.

The popular group, which scooped the award in the best kwaito category during the Metro Music Awards in Port Elizabeth at the weekend, are staunch members of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC).

The group, which consists of Les Maada, Picat, Staligen, Ntswebeer and Crazy T, were seen proudly displaying the badges of their congregation during the awards ceremony.

Speaking to Sowetan yesterday, Maada, the group's co-founder said: "We chose to follow God's word because of the dynamic nature of our industry.

"We have lost friends in the past due to circumstances that were not good and now we have turned over a new leaf and devote our time and efforts to the church like never before.

"The ZCC has helped several people to adjust to their ever- changing lives, and we urge other musicians to follow suit and join us in the quest to repent of their previous lifestyles.

"We feel the church is a true spiritual home," he said.

Maada said they had been baptised and welcomed into the church with open arms.
