Four suspects allegedly involved in a robbery and shootout left a 15-month-old baby dead last month appeared in the Johannesburg magistrates' court yesterday.

Seven other people were injured during the shootout between robbers and cash-in-transit security guards.

Fana Makhanya, 25, Lawrence Alfonso, 44, Bhekizwe Ndlovu, 27, and Muhle Mazibuko, age unknown, appeared briefly in court.

They are charged with murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Their case was postponed to December 7 because three of the accused still have to consult with the public defender.

Mazibuko said that he would conduct his own defence. - Thembela Khamango
