A 22-year-old man who allegedly beat his mother to death, for leaving his father alone while she went out, appeared in court yesterday.

Patrick Ndlala, of Mbangwane near Mbuzini in Mpumalanga, appeared on a charge of murder in the Nkomazi magistrates' court.

The case was postponed to December 18 for further police investigation.

The suspect will remain in custody and the state is expected to oppose bail at his next court appearance.

Ndlala was allegedly drunk when he accused his mother, Tfutsile Ngobeni-Ndlala, 50, of leaving his elderly father to starve while she went out with her friends in the village.

The suspect had come home on Sunday afternoon and found his parents sitting together and talking.

He allegedly went for his mother and started beating her.

He hurled insults at her, saying her behaviour was a disgrace to the family.

He accused her of going out with friends instead of staying at home to cook for his father.

Police alleged the suspect punched his mother in the face and pushed her violently.

His elderly father, 65, was not able to stop the fight.

By the time neighbours intervened it was too late - Ngobeni- Ndlala was already dead.
