Was baby nabbed or dumped?

North West is investigating a case of child kidnapping and a case of child neglect, said Sergeant Malebo Khosana of Free State.

North West is investigating a case of child kidnapping and a case of child neglect, said Sergeant Malebo Khosana of Free State.

A month-old baby who was kidnapped last week then reunited with her mother is still in hospital, North West police said yesterday.

Miriam Madibo, 20, told police her baby, Sarah, was snatched from her by a taxi driver near Orkney on Thursday.

Sarah was found abandoned hours later and taken to the Parys hospital, where her mother later identified her.

Malebo confirmed that the baby had been found under a tree in Schonkenville in the northern Free State on Thursday.

Khosana said police still had to confirm that Madibo was the child's mother. - Sapa
