An Mpumalanga student allegedly torched the home of his girlfriend's parents at the weekend because she couldn't give him R3 to buy a cigarette.
Inspector Shawane Sepato, of the Siyabuswa police, said the suspect became angry when his girlfriend said she did not have money to give him.
"He grabbed a music system and smashed it on the floor. The frightened girl escaped by jumping through the window with her three-month-old baby in her arms," said Sepato.
He said the fire caused damage estimated at R18 000. The suspect was arrested and charged with arson. - McKeed Kotlolo
