More that 20 pupils have been expelled from Domino Servite School, a private missionary school in KwaMaphumulo, on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, for allegedly having love relationships at the school.
The boarding school caters for children of the provincial political elite and business people, including IFP chairman Zanele Magwaza.
It is alleged that the pupils, who are in grades 8 to 12, were barred from writing their final examinations by Dumisani Makhoba, a monk and preacher at the school.
Parents of the expelled pupils are furious, saying Makhoba came up with a long list of pupils' names and forced them to confess that were having love relationships.
According to a source at the school, Makhoba apparently dreamt that the kids were having relationships, which is against the school's policy.
The source said: "Most of the pupils expelled are those who refused to bow to him. He told the children that he spoke to Jesus, who told him about those with love affairs at the school. Some of the children, especially matrics, were allowed to finish their exams."
Michael Ngubane, a member of the school governing body, denied that some of the pupils were not allowed to complete their examinations but he confirmed that some of them were expelled after breaching the school's code of conduct.
"I do not know anything about Makhoba's dream. The children were dismissed for their wrongdoing," said Ngubane. Makhoba denied expelling the children.
"I am not involved in anything that happens at the schools. I help children who have problems," he said.
Dorothy Newlands, the school principal, said they followed set procedures in expelling the pupils from school.
"We do not expel them because of allegations. We apply a democratic system to try to help children.
"We examine each case. We love them and we want to build their futures, not destroy them," she said.
