As a leading brand in soccer on the subcontinent, Pirates' players ought to know to behave better, or they will harm not only their club but the beautiful game in general.
Isaac Chansa, in protest against being red-carded by referee Lwandile Mfiki after allegedly swearing at assistant referee Yugesh Anjith, attempted to throttle the latter.
Chansa was angered by Anjith's failure to flag Cosmos' Christopher Katanga for an off-side before he scored in a league match that ended in a 1-all draw.
This is not the first time that fans have been subjected to embarrassment by a Pirates' player this season.
In August Onyekachi Okonkwo chased a referee around. The punishment meted out to him was appropriate. Bucs need to be equally tough on Chansa.
Granted, PSL referees can be inconsistent in interpreting the rules. But this is no excuse for players to tarnish football.
Chansa must be sanctioned heavily - as Okonkwo was.
We are also appalled by a weekend newspaper's picture of Jomo Sono showing the middle finger.
