The ANC Youth League and Cosatu have come out against politicians using their position for personal financial gain.

Yesterday league spokesman Zizi Kodwa said people in key government positions should choose between serving the masses or pursuing riches.

"If they want to serve the people they must remain in government and do so.

"If they want to be in business they must then leave government. We cannot have a situation where people use their positions in government to build their own business empires," said Kodwa.

The ANC should develop a code of conduct that would ban its members in leadership positions from being involved in business, the labour federation said yesterday.

Sunday Times reported yesterday that two cabinet ministers, a deputy minister and a national assembly speaker have shares in a consortium charged with building the Gautrain.
