A jealous husband who allegedly stabbed his wife to death and strangled his two-year-old son is behind bars after barely a day on the run.

The 37-year-old man left a note in which he explained why he murdered his wife, 33, and son at their Orange Farm home in the Vaal Triangle on Thursday before fleeing.

Superintendent Nthabiseng Mazibuko said the man was arrested at his hide-out in Volkrust, Mpumalanga, on Friday morning by the Orange Farm police who had received a tip-off about his whereabouts.

The man allegedly stabbed his wife in the neck and choked his son.

The deceased wife's 43-year-old sister said the family had long suspected the accused would kill her sister.

She said this year he had poured boiling water on his wife because he suspected that she was cheating on him.

The suspect will appear in the Vereeniging magistrates' court on double murder charges tomorrow.

The couple had two daughters aged 13 and 7.

They were sleeping in their room when their mother and little brother were murdered.

The deceased will be buried in Orange Farm on Saturday.
