Unfancied novices Evans Mbamba and Maxwell Awuku shamed battle-scarred warriors Zolile Mbityi and Lehlohonolo Ledwaba at the weekend.
Mbamba, who is undefeated after 13 fights, outpointed Mbityi, who has 28 wins, 13 losses and three draws, via a split decision to win the vacant WBC International junior bantamweight title at Graceland Casino in Secunda.
It was a close fight. The scorecard read: 113-112 and 114-115 for Mbamba, and 117-112 for Mbityi.
Mbamba almost gave it away by foolishly leaning against the ropes, where Mbityi scored.
Earlier on Patrick Malinga knocked Evans Mamaleka down three times in two minutes of the first round, and it was all over, bar the shouting.
Jasper Seroka stopped Patrick Masango in three rounds, while Jaques Stapelberg made a successful professional debut by stopping Lucky Makhubela in two rounds.
In Mafikeng on the same evening, unknown Ghanian Awuku, a novice of 12 wins, a loss and a draw, punished Ledwaba so severely the former WBU bantam-, feather- and IBF junior featherweight titleholder would not come out of his corner for the 11th round.
Ledwaba, a veteran of 36 wins, five losses and one draw, took a count in the first round and never recovered, surrendering his WBA Pan African junior lightweight belt.
Corrie Sanders stopped Australian heavyweight champion Collin Wilson in two rounds.
In Australia on Saturday night, William Gare lost his battle for the vacant WBF super middleweight title on an eighth round technical decision to Australia's Jamie Pittman in Terrigal. Pittman sustained a bad cut over his eye after an accidental clash of heads. The fight was stopped and at the time the scores were 69-65, 69-64 and 70-63, all in favour of Pittman.
