Five men have been arrested for allegedly hijacking a furniture delivery truck in Mamelodi, Pretoria, police said yesterday.

Five men have been arrested for allegedly hijacking a furniture delivery truck in Mamelodi, Pretoria, police said yesterday.

Police spokesman Inspector Paul Ramaloko said one man was arrested on Wednesday and four other suspects were arrested on Monday.

"It all started last Friday when a delivery truck transporting furniture in Mamelodi was hijacked by four men," said Ramaloko.

"The four men later abandoned the truck but it was recovered, empty, on the same day."

The men were arrested on Monday and information received by police officers from the four suspects led to the discovery on Wednesday of the stolen furniture at a house in Mamelodi.

Plasma television sets, fridges and washing machines were found.

"The owner of the house was arrested and all the furniture was recovered," said Ramaloko.

He said the men had been charged with hijacking and theft and would appear in the Mamelodi magistrates' court soon. - Sapa
