Councillors supporting embattled National Democratic Convention (Nadeco) leader, Ziba Jiyane yesterday passed a vote of no confidence in the party's current NEC.
This is after last week's court ruling that reinstated the current national executive.
Matthew Shunmugan said the resolution was taken on Saturday, where 21 of the 24 councillors were present.
At a media briefing in Durban yesterday, the councillors said they would lead the process of holding the first ever conference to elect a new leadership.
"We are sick and tired of the shenanigans going on in our party. We could no longer fold our hands, while our party was embarrassed in court," said Shunmugan.
He said the the NEC had failed to organise a conference in the past 12 months. Shunmugan said from Saturday they would hold district izimbizos where members would sign petitions of endorsing their leadership and the proposal to hold a conference next month.
"We cannot allow 12 people to hold the party to ransom. People are frustrated and so are we," he said.
Jiyane, the party's interim president, said he was grateful the councillors ha decided to act.
"They are the democratically elected body and no one can challenge any decision they take.
"I am tired of being called a dictator and for now, I am taking a back seat. I have done my best to make things right, all my efforts, have yielded no results," said Jiyane.
