Young black golfers Omar Sandys and James Kamte have been invited to take part in the biggest charity golf tournament in Africa, the Nelson Mandela Invitational at Arabella Country Club, near Hermanus, this weekend.

The event will be played for the seventh year running and has attracted business people, celebrities, regular golfers and senior professional players.

Sandys, who has been a leading black player in the past three years, will be taking part in the tournament for the fourth time. Kamte will be making his debut after a good run on the Sunshine Tour last year.

Vincent Tshabalala, who teamed up with Tim Clark when they won the event last year, will return with his partner. They are determined to retain their title.

The competition's success as Africa's premier charity sporting event is largely due to the support of its many sponsors, which ensures the commercial viability of the tournament.

Media manager Lali Stander said: "This tournament is not about money, but about raising funds for charities and will be contested by top and world-acclaimed golfers."

Charl Schwartzel, who won the Sunshine Tour order of merit, has qualified, and the winner of the Coca-Cola Charity Championship that ends today will be rewarded with a coveted spot in the star-studded field.
