An anonymous hotline for tip-offs where communities can report corrupt municipal activities has been launched in Limpopo.

At the launch this week at the offices of the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM), executive mayor Motalane Monakedi said it was an independent and anonymous service.

It would be used by the community to report fraud, corruption and irregularities taking place within the CDM and its five local municipalities.

These are Aganang, Blouberg, Lepelle-Nkumpi, Molemole and Polokwane.

The hotline is a free call and the number is 0800-20-50-53.

"As CDM we will always make sure that we have strategies and policies that will ensure that whatever resources we have are used for the benefit of the community," Monakedi said.

He urged the CDM community, officials and councillors to use the service to protect the municipality against fraudulent activities.

He also said that this would benefit the municipality and save it the money it was losing through such activities.

It is expected that as the community begins to use the hotline, the officials and councillors will be more responsible in their use of state resources.

The municipality is the third institution after the Limpopo legislature and Lepelle Northern Water to use the tip-off service.
