Gang-related violence is believed to have claimed another life in Port Elizabeth after a 25-year-old man was found dead with stab wounds to the chest.

Superintendent Johan van Greunen said police had found the body of the unidentified man at Deli Street in Gelvandale this week.

Greunen said that it was believed that the man was murdered shortly before his body was discovered.

No one had apparently witnessed the attack, but police are investigating the possibility that the killing was gang-related.

Captain Johann Rheeder said the northern areas of the city where the body was found had become a hot spot for gang violence.

"Most of the shootings and stabbings are taking place outside taverns and in other areas that are known drug spots."

He said police believed that the gangs were fighting over the rights to distribute drugs.

Rheeder appealed to members of the community who might have witnessed the killing to contact the Gelvandale police.
