Disabled students march

Disabled students at the University of Venda yesterday marched to complain about the institution's poor management and handling of their affairs.

They accused the university's administration of demanding fees from them when he university knew that the Department of Labour and the National Students' Financial Aid body were responsible for their education.

Khongelani Mkansi, a spokesman for Students With Disabilities on campus, said the problem started last year when the university sent letters of demand to the students and not to the institutions responsible for their education.

He said the failure to claim the money from their sponsors affected their studies because they can't buy the special educational equipment they need.

The university's registrar, Khuliso Nemadzivhanani, admitted that they were not catering for the disabled students' needs properly.
