Mbityi wary of rising Mbamba
Zolile Mbityi is not confident of beating rising star Evans Mbamba at the Graceland Casino on Friday night.
Why else would he refuse to put his national junior bantamweight title on the line?
Instead, they will fight for the vacant WBC International junior bantamweight belt.
Mbityi, a veteran of 43 fights, 28 wins, 12 defeats and three draws, wants something to fall back on if he loses against the undefeated, top-rated southpaw, who has 12 wins (six KOs).
Mbityi, 36, is under the mentorship of former world champion Vuyani "The Beast" Bungu.
Mbityi, who is also known as "Bonecrusher", is a former South African and IBO flyweight title- holder.
He rose from the ashes two months ago to win the national junior bantamweight title from Simon Ramoni, who had been the champion since May 8 2004.
Mbityi had been written off as a spent force but he brought all his massive experience to the fore and emerged victorious.
The WBC International title was held by Mbamba's stablemate Masibulele "Hawk" Makepula, who forfeited it after he was stopped in the fourth round by Jorge Arce while fighting for the WBC's junior bantamweight number one spot two months ago.
