It is that time of year when the Mapungubwe Arts Festival hits Limpopo, and the organisers anticipate yet another successful showpiece.
Running in its third year, the festival takes place in and around Polokwane from December 8 to 16, with music and exhibitions to appeal to all.
This year's event includes a jazz festival, the Kwaito and Battle of the DJs Festival, a gospel festival, a children's festival and exhibitions around Polokwane.
Top of the billing at the jazz festival are revered US artist Maze and guest artist Frankie Beverly, who will be performing at the Polokwane Cricket Club on December 16.
Other artists performing on the day are Congolese kwasa-kwasa and rumba king Papa Wemba, Oliver Mtukudzi, Caiphus Semenya, Gloria Bosman, Mafikizolo, Mzwakhe Mbuli, Ntando and Pat Mathsikiza.
The Kwaito and Battle of the DJs Festival will feature, among others, Arthur, Spikiri, Zola, Alaska, Chomee, Sgonondo, Brickz, Trompies, Somizi, Maduvha, Mandoza and the famed DJ Cleo at the Chuenespoort Resort, south of Polokwane, on December 10.
The gospel festival will feature household names such as Vuyo Mokoena, Worship House, Jay Hlongwane and Ndivhuwo Mathumbo on December 9.
Kirk Franklin is also expected to perform, but this still needs to be confirmed.
Speaking at the launch of the festival Joe Maswanganye, former MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, said the event had played a crucial role in putting the province on the entertainment map both within the country and abroad.
"The festival serves as an influence for the promotion of tourism," Maswanganye said.
