Drink killing love

My boyfriend is a heavy drinker and recently knocked over and killed a pedestrian. Now he faces a criminal charge.

My boyfriend is a heavy drinker and recently knocked over and killed a pedestrian. Now he faces a criminal charge.

I thought this would stop him drinking, or at least drinking while he drives, but he is still at it.

When he is drunk he is rude and abusive and he has lifted his hand to me more than once. I loved him in the beginning, but the bottle has drowned my love. But I feel sorry for him facing a criminal charge. What should I do?

Feeling helpless, Randburg

Are you going to stay with him until he kills another person? Until he drinks himself into an early grave? Until he beats you so that you have to be hospitalised or buried?

He is bad news for himself and awful news for you. Leaving him doesn't mean you can't be his friend and give him support through this difficult time. You might find that leaving him is the one thing that will make him take a long, hard look at being sober.
