The South African justice is skewed towards the rich and politically connected. Only the poor will languish in jails.

Just when we thought justice had been served on Tony Yengeni, he will be out on parole in January. One wonders how he already qualifies for parole.

How many prisoners know about this right and how many have benefitted from it? Or is this just for the Tony Yengenis?

Schabir Shaik explored all legal avenues available to him to stay out of jail yet many people are not afforded the same luxury.

Poor people do not have access to these privileges and are exposed to worse prison conditions than the wealthy, yet the government is doing nothing to change the status quo.

We can't talk of equality when we treat people differently. Inequality is another form of discrimination and if South Africa is to rid itself of its apartheid ghost, it must do better.
