Student leaders at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) have called on the institution's management to make public the findings of a report that details massive fraud and corruption at the institution.

This week newly appointed DUT administrator Jonathan Jansen said staff and external service providers named in an independent forensic audit into irregularities at the university would face criminal and civil action.

The report released recently by auditing and advisory firm, KPMG, found financial irregularities in several administrative departments.

Students' Representative Council president, Thami Shezi, welcomed the investigation, but wanted access to the 397-page report.

"It should be made available to the public. If it isn't we will take legal action," he said.

Jansen said it was his goal to "restore DUT's credibility as a financially and academically well-managed institution".

He wouldn't comment on names in the report or how much is missing, but figures bandied about put the amount at about R100 million.
