Gays and lesbians are protected by the constitution, which has an equality clause prohibiting any form of discrimination.
South Africans who are emotional about this issue and insult gays and lesbians are not helping nation building and unity. Gays and lesbians were never able to express their feelings during the apartheid era. It is only now under constitutional democracy that they are able to do so.
It is disappointing that 12 years into democracy there are still people who believe that gays and lesbians are wrong and should be dealt with accordingly.
Gays and lesbians might be wrong in terms of a biblical perspective and cultural and religious beliefs, but this is not so in terms of the democratic system and constitution of our country.
