DRC urged to accept poll result

The Pan African Parliament, based in Midrand, yesterday urged the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo to accept the outcome of the election.

PAP president Gertrude Mongella said it was time for the DRC to move beyond its conflicts and start developing.

"The people have suffered for a long long time . the more conflict continues, the more the resources are depleted and taken out of the country," Mongella said.

PAP was yesterday discussing peace and security on the continent.

The DRC Independent Electoral Commission announced that President Joseph Kabila was the winner with 58,05 percent of the votes against rebel leader Jean-Pierre Bemba's 41,9percent.
