Closing in on Kebble killers

The arrest of a suspect in connection with the mysterious murder of prominent businessman Brett Kebble should be viewed as a major breakthrough.

The arrest of a suspect in connection with the mysterious murder of prominent businessman Brett Kebble should be viewed as a major breakthrough.

The suspect, Glenn Agliotti - a close associate of Kebble - appeared in the Johannesburg magistrates' court yesterday.

The Scorpions announced shortly after his appearance that they were searching for more suspects.

Agliotti, it should be remembered, is an innocent man until proven otherwise pending evidence against him being tested in a court of law.

Kebble, a mining magnate, was gunned down in Johannesburg while on his way to an appointment.

He was a powerful and influential man in political and business circles and his death baffled many South Africans.

The arrest of a suspect could help unravel the motive for his killing.

The onus now lies with the police to deliver the evidence that will allow the state to present its case and the accused to have his say in court.
