Residents of Phalaborwa and GaMatlala were relieved at the announcement yesterday that new chief executives had been appointed for their hospitals.
The new chief executive of Maphutha-Malatji Hospital in Namakgale is Rebecca Peta.
Peta was chief executive of Sekororo Hospital near Tzaneen for more than seven years. The 47-year-old succeeded Phillimon Sape.
Goitsemang Maomakwe is the new chief executive of the Zebediela Hospital near Lebowakgomo. Maomakwe is the former chief executive of GaMatlala Hospital, where she worked for more than five years.
Yesterday she was introduced to the hospital board and staff.
Both hospitals have experienced protracted rifts with their communities.
In Maphutha- Malatji, residents resorted to protest marches, complaining of poor health services and nepotism.
In GaMatlala the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union accused nursing staff of ill-treating patients and the chief executive of inefficiency.
