More than 150 cricketers from various tertiary institutions across the country will converge on Polokwane on November 26 to take part in the South African Student Sports Union Cricket Week B section.

The event, which is hosted by the Limpopo Cricket Union in conjunction with the University of Limpopo, Turfloop campus, ends on December 1.

The matches will be staged at Polokwane Cricket Club, at nearby Nirvana and in Turfloop. It is the first time the tournament will be staged in Limpopo and the hosts have vowed to win the competition.

Apart from University of Limpopo, Turfloop campus and University of Venda for Science and Technology, other institutions that will compete include Durban Institute of Technology, Vaal University of Technology and Tshwane University of Technology, Soshanguve campus.

Others are Mangosuthu Technikon, University of North West, Mafikeng campus, University of Zululand, Port Elizabeth College, Fort Hare University and University of Limpopo, Medunsa campus.

"We are ready for the tournament and the fact that we are hosting it should give us the edge over our competitors," Attlee Maponyane, director of sport at the Turfloop campus, said yesterday.

"We came sixth last year in East London, but we are now more determined to emerge victorious at home."

He was speaking at the launch of the tournament in Polokwane yesterday.
