Still mourning the death of music icon Lebo Mathosa a fortnight ago, music lovers have been greeted with the shocking news of the death of two top singers, Jabu Khanyile and Gerald Levert.

Khanyile, a long-time diabetic, died on Saturday - a day after American rhythm and blues singer Levert died from a suspected heart attack.

Fresh memories of a stunning South African tour by Levert and dad Eddie a fortnight ago have sadly been replaced by grief among their fans.

Khanyile indelibly distinguished himself with his inimitable Afro-pop style that won him legions of fans in a singing career spanning 30 years.

Even when they have departed, artists like Khanyile and Levert remain in our midst through the realm of song eternally. We hope their departure will climax with a march up the stairway to heaven.
