Murder, gang warfare, violence, drugs and alcohol in schools all seem to be getting worse.

Murder, gang warfare, violence, drugs and alcohol in schools all seem to be getting worse.

The minister of education and her MECs are making welcome announcements on plans, codes of conduct and regulations to deal with the problem. But more action and more funding are needed, especially in high-risk areas.

Strict prevention measures are necessary, such as random drug testing and random searches for dangerous objects.

Metal detectors could be used. But who will provide them? R5million in each province does not go far.
