MTN gave 11 computers to a high school in Kwaggafontein, Mpumalanga, but the principal is worried that crime might cause them not to reach their intended beneficiaries.

"There are four schools in this area that had all their computers stolen. This happened three months ago," said Billy Tshesane, principal of Mafu Secondary School.

Tshesane said they were in the process of beefing up security at the school because of crime.

Mpumalanga education MEC Siphosezwe Masango said his department had a budget for security.

"Our schools get a budget based on their needs. Mafu is a no-fee school and these schools must say what their needs are so that we can allocate the money.

"But they can only get the money in the next financial year. In the meantime the principal and school governing body must come up with funds from other sources," said Masango.

MTN also donated a printer, computer earphones, a mouse, a mouse-pad, and computers desks.

The donation was made after the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) approached the telephone network for the donation.

"This is part of our social responsibility programme through which we are addressing social issues, not politics. During the local government elections we had an imbizo at this school and that is when we identified the need for its development. This is why we approached MTN," said the ANCYL spokesman Zizi Kodwa.
