Tabisa Mabengeza, 21, a student at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), said: "I am currently on MTN and happy with their rates. They have cheap SMSes and a lot of specials. I would not want to change to anything else."

But Palesa Phosa, 20, another UJ student, said she could not wait.

"I'm so glad I can finally change networks and it's great that I don't have to lose my contacts. I want to change to Vodacom for great Internet service," she said.

Thando Lamani, 21, a political science student, said: "I would not change. I am happy with Vodacom. It suits my pocket at the moment."

Malikhaya Lusiba, 20, an electrical engineering student said: "I have been meaning to change to Cell C, but was afraid I would lose my number. Cell C has R5 airtime and that's great for me."
