Notching up yet another victory for South Africa, popular SABC Education reality show It's for Life has won an international silver screen award.

The award, scooped at the 39th yearly US International Film and Video Festival in Los Angeles, was listed in the category of direction.

It's for Life showcases the personal growth of three participants challenged to define themselves through various inter-related tasks.

In the winning episode Home Swap, directed by Marguerite Albrecht, three people from different parts of South Africa moved in together and faced many challenges while finding out more about themselves.

The participants - Faith Kalipha, Haajirah Abrahams and Thabo Mboneni - spent 13 weeks together.

"They got to know each other, developed tolerance, learnt to appreciate diversity, rights, values and ethics," said Jo Neethling, project manager of SABC Education.
