A 28-year-old yesterday confessed to the police that he had killed a 16-year-old girl because a sangoma wanted her body parts.

The girl, identified as Jahana Mothiba, was abducted from Waschbank village, west of Polokwane, on Sunday afternoon.

She was with her 20-year-old boyfriend and a four-year-old girl, believed to be a relative.

A man reportedly approached them while they were walking and threatened them.

The trio fled in different directions.

The traumatised boyfriend said he ran back to Waschbank village to get help.

Inspector Mohlaka Mashiane, of the Seshego police, said the man chased Mothiba until he caught her.

The alleged suspect is said to be have been known to both Mothiba and to her boyfriend.

A search was immediately launched by members of the community, but only Mothiba's clothes were found at the place where she had been chased by the man, said Mashiane.

The four-year-old girl was found by a taxi driver near the village. She was unhurt.

Police were called and joined the villagers in the search.

A man was arrested who told the police he had killed Mothiba because a traditional healer in GaMatlala needed her body parts.

He said he did not know the whereabouts of Mothiba's.

Mashiane said the search for the body was continuing and it was hoped the suspect would cooperate with investigators and lead them to the girl's body.

The suspect, he said, would appear in the Seshego magistrates' court soon on charges of murder and kidnapping.
