An increase in the South African Chamber of Business' (Sacob) business confidence index (BCI) for October was probably a temporary spike and not the start of a renewed surge in confidence, Sacob said yesterday.

An increase in the South African Chamber of Business' (Sacob) business confidence index (BCI) for October was probably a temporary spike and not the start of a renewed surge in confidence, Sacob said yesterday.

The increase to 99,5 last month came after a temperate declining trend between May and September.

Sacob said the stronger confidence could be attributed to a turnaround in the trade account of the balance of payments while consumer inflation declined slightly, contrary to expectations. - Sapa
