KINSHASA - The Democratic Republic of Congo will not have another chance if its presidential elections fail to end the strife in the country, former Ghanaian leader Jerry Rawlings said in Kinshasa yesterday.

"The time has come to put away the guns," said Rawlings, part of a delegation of election observers from the African Forum, an informal group of former leaders that advises the African Union.

Early results show that incumbent Kabila has taken a lead over rival Bemba, according to early figures from the October 29 run-off election.

The full results are not expected until November 19. The winner will be announced no later than November 30. - Sapa-AFP
