The Limpopo department of education will employ another 124 circuit managers in the five districts of the province from January to improve the quality of education in the province.

The province currently has 144 circuit managers.

Ndo Mangala, a departmental spokesman, said the appointments would be made in January.

The new managers would be expected, among other things, to form good relationships between school management teams, teachers, parents and pupils, he said.

"The managers will also be expected to turn under-performing schools into performing schools by regularly monitoring the work of the schools and the pupils," he said.

Limpopo circuit managers recently came under serious criticism from the Minister of Education, Naledi Pandor, for not supporting schools and pupils.

Pandor said: "We need to know who the managers of the poorly performing schools are and if they know how many pupils there are in their districts and what the needs of these schools are."
