Frustrated teachers should not vent their anger on helpless pupils.

Frustrated teachers should not vent their anger on helpless pupils.

Ntokozo Lubisi, a nine-year-old pupil at Tiphembeleni Primary School in Mpumalanga, sustained third-degree burns after a teacher threw boiling candle wax at her in February this year. She spent more than three months in hospital.

Her parents have turned to the courts for relief. They are demanding R5million in damages from the Education Department.

The court action - if successful - could set a precedent for parents to take similar action against teachers who abuse their children.

The ministry of education needs to explain why this teacher is still in their employ.
