Yet another schoolboy was allegedly stabbed by a fellow pupil at school and is recovering in hospital.

The incident happened at the Mabotha High School in GaKibi village outside Dendron, Limpopo, on Tuesday.

Ndo Mangala, spokesman for the education department, said the two boys were not fighting but were "just playing".

The parents were convened to resolve the matter. But a source said the victim's parents were insisting on opening a case against the culprit.

Mangala said: "The culprit will be charged with misconduct for bringing a weapon on to the school premises.

"The policy is clear. No weapons should be brought on to school premises. That the boys were not actually fighting is one thing, but that one subsequently sustained injury is another."

l The education department has held high-level talks with police to curb the spiralling crime on school premises on KwaZulu- Natal's north coast.

Teachers are being robbed at gunpoint and need police escorts going to school.

Spokesman Christi Naude said the situation was negatively affecting teaching and impinging on matric examinations.
