Now ANC is twisting history

Recently the country's busiest airport was renamed after one of the most prominent liberation leaders, OR Tambo. This, according to the ANC, is in line with changes to correct the black people's distorted history.

Recently the country's busiest airport was renamed after one of the most prominent liberation leaders, OR Tambo. This, according to the ANC, is in line with changes to correct the black people's distorted history.

There were objections to the name change, but the ANC has gone ahead and changed every city's street names, and named them after its leaders. This was done without taking into cognisance that the ANC is not the only liberation movement in the country. The ruling party has monopolised the liberation struggle.

This is a distortion of the history they are trying to fix. It is not different from what apartheid did.

No one is asking for a beautiful and flawless history, all we need is the true reflection of our history. Any person who has travelled knows every city has a road or street named after Thabo Mbeki and Nelson Mandela. And worse, most informal settlements are named after ANC stalwarts. To balance our history everyone should be treated equally.

Our leaders talk of reconciliation but they practice the opposite.

The ANC's renaming process is wrong, unfair and a disservice to our history. It is flawed and it distorts our history.
